Target is selling a pink iPod

In the week the P.U.L.S.E. show by Pink Floyd is finally released, we get another nice Pink news: the iPod (in all its versions) is now being sold in the color pink. The colored iPods comes in different configurations, such as the 30GB iPod video and the smaller sized nano.

According to the iPod Fan blog:

The iPod is so well known in its two distinctive colors (white and black), that we hardly imagine they coming in other colors. But now, thanks to Target, you can get a really colorful iPod. Target is selling the Pink iPod, which is officially called the ColorAware iPod, Pink edition. Different models are coming in this color, including the iPod video (figure above), and the iPod nano.

We still don't know if this is exclusive to Target, neither if other colors will be made available, but it is really nice.

Play Station 3 coming with 60GB HD

We are little by little getting new pieces of information about the new playStation 3. The new information recently released is that the PS3 will have a 60GB hard drive, enough to hold a large amount of data such as movies, games, pictures, and sounds.

This shows that the PS3 will be well positioned to dispute with Microsoft Xbox 360 for the crown of the best home entertainment appliance.

Tatung 42" Widescreen Plasma HDTV Monitor reviewed

Widescreen monitors are getting cheaper everyday. This is the trend of the last few years, and if it depends on technology and production costs, the prices are gonna get even better during 2006.

A good example of this trend is the new Tatung 42" Widescreen Plasma HDTV Monitor. This TV set has all the goodies of the more well known (and also more expensive) brands have to offer: 16 : 9 widescreen aspect ratio with 1024 x 768 pixels of resolution. Great brightness of 1000 cd/m2 (which is among the best of its class), and a viewing angle of 160 degrees both in the horizontal and vertical directions. This viewing degree provides an exceptional viewing experience, again not different from what is provided by a SONY, Panasonic, or other famous brands of plasma TV.

For all the specs of this TV set, it seems to be clearly on par with all the latest technology, and frankly even surpassing some of the more established brands. So, when I see such TV sets selling for as low as $2000 in retail stores, I see that plasma technology is getting far beyond the expectations of most people in this area.

Certainly 2006 will be a great year for digital TV, and it is about time to use the opportunity to get some of these nice TV sets and see TV with quality that is higher than ever.

The Digital Blog reports on a new service made available for PSP users on the Internet. The service allow PSP owners to view the best stories posted in the Digg web site. According to their post:

The main windows in kept as basic as possible, to allow easy browsing with a small screen. Really a very clever service for PSP users.

The reasons for the success of Nintendo Games

Nintendo has been a great power in the Computer Games for a long time. In an issue of Famitsu, the five main reasons for the success of the company are listed as:

1 - Great Promotions - "A famous Japanese actress, Nanako Matsushima, appeared on a recent commercial for More Brain Training, and for once the woman they dragged out to pose with a videogame actually seemed to be really enjoying herself."
2 - Demo stations were plentiful - "In any department store in Japan, there are DS demo stations. Usually the screens are scratched to high hell, and lately, there are a lot of games to choose from."
3 - Appeal to non-gamers - "This is the most obvious reason."
4 - Wi-Fi game download stations - "At any videogame store, there are DS download and play stations."
5 - Great games sold the system - "Nintendo has always prided itself in quality games and DS has been a shining example. The quality of the games has caused developers to think in new ways, or to find inspiration."

Microsoft sells less Xbox units than expected

The Xbox 360 console seemed to be one of the hot products of the last Xmas shopping seanson, right behind the iPod. Well, it did pretty well, but contrary to its biggest competitor, Apple, Microsoft fell short of the expected revenue for its game box.

According to the Inquirer, Microsoft was able to sell only 600,000 Xbox 360s. The total goal for 2006 is 4.5 million units. The deceptive numbers for the last year are partially due to logistics problems.

The situation now gets even harder for Microsoft, since the new console will have to compete head to head with Sony's new console. As is well know that Microsoft looses money on each unit, the future of the Xbox gets a little darker with this news.

Studios delay the adotion of new DVD standard

Ab article by the CD freaks describes the problems in the definition of the new DVD formats. According to them, one of the problems is the excessive requirements placed by the studios on the encription technologies used by the formats.

For example, FOX has been very strict about the need of stronger encription formats for the new Blu-ray technology:

Another problem plaguing Blu-ray development is a requirement placed on the organization when it signed a deal with Fox Studios. Fox had demanded that high-definition DVDs utilize a stricter copy-protection format than AACS, which is employed by both Blu-ray and HD DVD. While HD DVD rejected the demand, Blu-ray conceded.
